Ah the glorious Man Bun; possibly known as a “mun” or a topknot, and is basically achieved by tieing long locks with a hair band on top of the head. Who would’ve thought it’d be so easy to create a bun, eh?

I know what some of you are thinking: Man Bun?! Is she fo’real?! Yes, yes I am my friend. 2014 was the year of the beard with  Movemeber, and somewhere along the lines the gorgeous Man Bun came to light.

The Man Bun derives from Japanese legacy of the samurai; and today is simply styled into a topknot. As the Man Bun pulls its way through into 2015; we’ve seen actors, musicians and sportsmen jump onto the trend, from  DiCaprio’s messy bun; footballer Beckham using top knots; Jared Leto, with his half-open bun; and of course One Direction’s Harry Styles who undoubtedly rocks the bun effortlessly.

Top 5 ‘Why The ‘Man Bun’ Needs To Thrive In 2015′

Alex Turner Style Profile

Voted NME’s coolest man on the planet, he’s sported a few killer looks in his time, some questionable others iconic. Whether you like him or not, there are some interesting style-grabs when it comes to the Arctic Monkeys frontman. Who doesn’t want to know all the secrets to Alex Turner’s style?

How to Get Alex Turner’s Style

From the scrawny Sheffield lad buzzing about in polos and track jackets, to the Saint Laurent styled rockstar maven. Turner’s style has seen him marry smoking jackets with rockabilly shirts, knitted polos, sharp penny loafers and, of course, THAT quiff. The illustrious front man has proved that his wardrobe etiquette is just as strong as his lyrical prowess. Safe to say, Turner and his look have substantially evolved over the years.

When the Arctic Monkeys exploded onto the scene in 2005, they were four lads that encapsulated the style and sentiment of all the teens out there listening to them. They had the same hairstyles and wore the same clothes. A 19 years old Alexander David Turner epitomised that generational look. From crooning over scuffles with the police and girls in clubs, the boys clad in polo shirts and drainpipes have come a long way.

By 2008, Turner and It girl Alexa Chung are officially an item and his style shifts to a distinctly more conscious way of dressing. It’s out with the jaded polo shirts and in with the floppy hair, boho Breton tops and a lot of ’70s leather. No doubt new beau Alexa had a thing or two to do with that, and it was a sartorial step in the right direction.

Fast forward a few years, and following the release of 2011’s Suck It and See came a new look for Alex like nothing we’d seen before. He’d swapped his hippie do for a cleaner, slicked hairstyle and fitted t-shirts worn under biker jackets in a shift towards a ’50s inspired style.

Through his style transitions, Alex has learned a thing or two and his current style meshes ’50s hair, with ’60s tailoring and ’70s influences. If there’s a polo in sight – it’s a vintage-style knitted one, and the jeans are hoisted up with biker style buckle belts. As his sound has evolved, so has his style and he’s fast become a go-to mood board of inspiration for many.

Through the Years: Alex Turner’s Clothes

Whether it’s teddy boy, boho or biker style you’re into, Alex Turner has given us enough style inspo over the years to dedicate plenty of precious column inches. If you want to learn the secrets to Alex Turner’s style read on for ideas on how to replicate his style through the years.

The Tracksuit Years

The mid-2000s saw Alex hold the torch for every other adolescent lad out there by showing that you could write the biggest selling British debut record of all time before the age of 20 and still wear the polo shirts and track jackets you were wearing to college. Whilst the 2000s might not have been Alex Turner’s sartorial peak, they’re perhaps the years we remember him most fondly. Doe-eyed and fresh-faced, with his polo collar popped and his guitar slung over his shoulder, Turner unleashed himself on us all.

How to Wear a Tracksuit: With a resurging interest in streetwear, now is as good a time as any to invest in some serious sportswear. They may have once been associated with yob hanging about the corner shop asking you to buy their cans, but not anymore. To emulate the style, keep things contemporary with a current brand like Champion and some style savvy trainers.

The Leather Look

The chameleon of style stepped out of his shell once again in 2012. Shortly after the release of 4th studio album Suck It and See, we began to notice a distinctly more conscious way of dressing. We can see Alex stepping away from the baggy t-shirts and faded denim. With his slicked rockabilly quiff and a closet full of biker jackets and crew neck t-shirts, Alex made putting a contemporary spin on a retro look as easy as he does everything else.

How to Wear Leather: Alex’s ’50s inspired all black leather look was a style conscious nod in the right direction for the frontman. It was out with the loose naughties fits and in with the tapered cuts. Alex has been wearing so many leather jackets that it wouldn’t be surprising if brands started releasing ‘The Alex Turner Leather Jacket’. After all, he’s been doing quite a service to this essential piece of outerwear.

A Vision in Vintage

I think it’s safe to say Alex has well and truly sent his polo shirts packing, unless we’re talking about the knitted variety, which he seems to carry in abundance. You can be as brave as Alex who’s wearing his rockabilly inspired pieces whilst running about LA with Miles Kane. Needless to say that if you’re not the lead singer in a very successful rockband, you might get a few questionable looks – but hey, give em something worth looking at eh?

How to Wear Vintage: Vintage inspiration filters into more aspects of contemporary fashion than you’d probably think. Roll necks? The ’60s. Track jackets? The ’90s. With Turner’s style, he very much sticks to clean tailoring and distinctive shirt and jacket styles taking influence predominantly from the 1950s and ’60s. Find a suit that is fitted and well tailored, with a leg length that just skims the ankle.

On That Note

Whether it’s naughties football casual outfits or 1950s leather, the Arctic Monkeys frontman’s style is endlessly eclectic. Through the years, there’s always something for everyone in Alex’s wardrobe. We’ve got a lot to learn from the Sheffield lad. Be it his hairstyles or his taste in clothes, Turner proves that his look is as relevant today as it was over a decade ago.

We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for the next look he brings to the table. No matter what kind of Alex you prefer, it’s probably time to get your hands on a staple leather jacket or even a tracksuit, why not? May Alex’s style spirit guide you along the way.

He’s known as one of the stars in the award-winning reality show ‘Made in Chelsea,’ but did you know he’s also the mastermind behind the urban Menswear company ‘Serge DeNimes’.
Who is this ‘he’ I’m speaking of you ask? Oliver Proudlock, of course!

If you’re familiar with E4’s ‘Made in Chelsea’ then you’ll know Mr Proudlock as being the guy with the unique-edgy fashion appeal (not to mention he’s also pretty damn cute!).  In terms of Menswear, Oliver Proudlock speaks volumes with his fashion sense. He likes to create a statement, express himself and isn’t afraid to play around with different styles and colours. This probably derives from his degree in Fine Art and love for photography.

Serge DeNimes [the name relates to Denim and Proudlock’s adoration for it] was founded in 2011 and since has grown into something magical in-front of the urban menswear world.

The first Tee collection was inspired by photographs, which were taken in 1978 by photographer Lena Proudlock [Oliver’s Mother], these images were focal on the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. This collection was a success and has only proved how much Proudlock has to offer the world of menswear.

Two years later and Serge DeNimes have just released their latest A/W 13 collection, with items ranging from: all-seeing eye tee’s; printed graphic tee’s; phone-cases, and snapbacks – everything in the new collection is SO SERGE!
